Magazine Advert Conclusion

After analysing 10 magazine adverts, some clear elements stood out as conventions, as many of the adverts chose to do similar things. By analysing these magazine adverts, we gained inspiration for how to create our own magazine advert, by following these conventions.

Firstly, it was often seen that an image of the artist was included in the magazine advert, as it would immediately capture readers' attention. Furthermore, is shows that they are passionate about the product they are promoting, as they have put time and effort into showing it off. Generally a close up image was used, but a few adverts chose to use mid shots to show the artist.

Most often it appeared that high key lighting was used to present the artist, in order to make the album appear happy and upbeat, something that people will want to listen to. This also makes the artist likeable, as they appear in a similar way that their album appears. This is further emphasied by the use of bright colours on most of the adverts, depending on the image that is recognisable for the artist.

Often, the adverts included promotional writing, like hit songs from the album that would intrigue people into buying. It also included the artist name and album title to create familiarity for the audience. Generally the image used was in synergy to the album cover which was being promoted (Olly Murs for example used the exact same image on both). The writing tends to overlap the image slightly, however the artist's face remains clearly seen, with nothing over it. This shows the artist's importance, whilst also allowing for instant recognition by fans and readers. The writing is usually large and bold, ensuring easy reading, which helps with promotion.
