Little Mix Digipak

3rd November 2015

Front Cover

The front cover for Little Mix's album "DNA" uses bright colours to present their fun personalities, and also the upbeat image and feeling of the pop genre. By doing this, the front cover appeals to the audience, as they are enticed to feel the happiness portrayed by the genre.

The layout uses a split of four frames, of close up images of all four band members. This allows fans and others who see the album cover to recognise the band as they immediately see their faces. This also shows the connection between the members of the band, which is appealing to the audience, as they enjoy watching the bond between the members, and how this is shown through their products.

The typography used for "LITTLE MIX" is san serif, creating the image of youthfulness, which attracts their target audience of mainly younger/teenage girls. The use of capitalisation and white colouring allows the letters to stand out against the colourful background. The album title is written just below the band name, in bright colours, which shows the personality of the music the band have created - fun and upbeat.

All four members of the band are wearing a lot of make up, to make the artists look perfected, therefore creating the effect of their fans idolising them, and wanting to be like them (uses and gratifications theory - personal identity).

The bright colours that are used on the front cover continue onto the back cover, which once again reinforces the pop music genre as being happy and upbeat. This is particularly emphasised on the back with the use of yellow as the background colour. The title of the album is also written on a background of yellow on the front cover, which then ties the album into the upbeat feeling.

The titles of the songs are randomly laddered vertically on the back, to show the fun side of the album, connoting that not everything has to be serious and perfect. The titles look like cut outs of the lines they are positioned upon. This creates a more childlike image, which is appealing to younger audiences, but also shows their youthful and excitable/fun approach and personalities.

Like most of the other album covers I have looked at, extra information like record label and bar code are placed on the back at the bottom. This information isn't as important to sales as the rest of the album, and so these are placed as the last things you see after taking in the rest of the information and images, that will pursuade fans and pop enthusiasts to purchase the album.
