Digipak Research Conclusion

After analysing 10 digipaks, I was able to decipher some conventions that may be helpful in creating our own digipak.

It appears that often the front cover of the digipak has synergy with the magazine advert. This allows for the audience to recognise the album cover from the advert - which is the point of the advert, and shows the good organisation behind promotion.

The colour scheme of the digipak tends to run throughout, ensuring that the product is linked together. It was often seen that gold was used to promote the artist's wealth, but in digipaks for bands, bright colours and illustrations appeared popular. This may be because aritists like Little Mix and One Direction appeal to people of all ages, included very young, unlike artists like Beyonce who tend to appeal to teeanager years and above.

Usually it seems that the disk is the plainest part of the digipak, generally consisting of a plain background and the artist name and album title. This helps the buyer know where the CD came from (when putting it back in the case), but also keeps the important information and images/writing on the front and back. These are the places where people will look to find what they want to see (such as the song titles and numbers) which makes this a useful layout as the front and back are the easiest places to find information.

Similarly to the magazine advert, the artist almost always appears on the front cover of the album. This helps fans instantly recognise the artist and therefore want to buy it. On the back, all of the album covers included the song titles either vertically, horizontally or diagonally. This made the titles easy to read. On the back there is usually a bar code, and information about the record label that the artist is signed to. This writing is generally in small print, as fans aren't interested in reading it. Furthermore, the record label information and bar code tend to be positioned at the bottom of the back cover, as it's the least important information, and the parts of the digipak that fans do no want to read or take interest in. Therfore by placing it at the bottom, it is the last thing they see, and they can stop paying attention when they do get down to it, because they won't miss any information below it because it's the last thing on the digipak.
